Ana Belén

Who is Ana Belén?
Ana Belén, the stage name of María del Pilar Cuesta Acosta (Madrid, May 27, 1951), is a singer, actress, and film director, one of the most versatile figures in Spanish culture over the past five decades. She started very young in film and theater, and combined that from the outset with music, eventually becoming a leading performer of Spanish-language singer-songwriter music.
She has been married since 1974 to singer-songwriter Víctor Manuel, with whom she has shared the stage on numerous occasions throughout her career, although each has always maintained a distinct, independent artistic path.
Career
Ana Belén built her musical career around songs of strong poetic and social content, working with composers such as her own husband, Víctor Manuel, and also Joan Manuel Serrat and Pablo Guerrero, among other authors close to the singer-songwriter movement of the 1970s and 80s. Her voice, recognizable and full of interpretive nuance, made her a performer greatly respected by other musicians.
In 1982 she starred, together with Víctor Manuel, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Miguel Ríos, in the tour “El gusto es nuestro,” one of the most memorable collective projects of Spanish music during the Transition, bringing together several of the most important voices of the era’s singer-songwriter movement on a single stage.
Notable discography
Among her most popular songs are “Águila y sol,” “Como una novia,” and “Peces de ciudad,” along with her participation in collective albums with other singer-songwriters. Her repertoire combines original songs with covers and adaptations of Latin American and Spanish poets and composers.
Legacy
Beyond her musical career, Ana Belén has built an extensive career in film and television that has made her one of Spain’s most complete and recognized artists. Her combination of social commitment, interpretive sensitivity, and stage presence places her among the most respected figures in Spanish singer-songwriter music.
