Who is Antonio José?

Antonio José Sánchez Mazuecos, known artistically as Antonio José, was born on January 2, 1995, in Palma del Río (Córdoba). He began singing in television contests as a young child, encouraged by his mother, and at just ten years old gained a degree of fame representing Spain at the 2005 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, where he finished in a respectable third place. That period produced his first album, which managed to break into Spanish-language song charts.

Career

After the excitement of Junior Eurovision, Antonio José continued releasing his own material, though without the same impact as his early years, and gradually made a name for himself on the Latin festival circuit, being recognised at a San Francisco competition for best pop song. Ten years after his television debut, in the summer of 2015, he auditioned for “La Voz,” where he was chosen by singer Antonio Orozco to join his team. His progress through the competition was steady: in the semifinal he received 76% of the public vote, the best result of any contestant, and he went on to win the grand final, performing songs including “El perdón.”

That win opened the doors to Universal Music, the label with which he released his album “El viaje” in July 2015, which entered directly onto the charts.

Notable discography

His discography includes the debut album that emerged from his Junior Eurovision run, plus “El viaje” (2015), his best-known work, featuring versions of songs that had accompanied him during his time on “La Voz.”
