Who is Bebe?

María Nieves Rebolledo Vila, known by the stage name Bebe, was born in Valencia on May 9, 1978, though she lived there for barely a year before her family moved to Extremadura, where she grew up between San Vicente de Alcántara (Badajoz), Zafra and Montijo. Her parents were members of the folk group Suberina, and that closeness to music from childhood shaped her calling: from 1995 she sang in the choir of the group Vanagloria.

In 1996, after finishing her pre-university studies in Badajoz, she moved to Madrid to study drama. Soon after she began performing in the capital and, in 2001, won a writing competition held in Extremadura.

Career

In late 2003 she was offered a record deal, and in March 2004 “Pafuera Telarañas,” produced by Carlos Jean, was released. The album produced songs such as “Ella,” “Siempre me quedará” and, above all, “Malo,” which became a huge hit in Italy in the summer of 2006. The record also included “Que nadie me levante la voz,” which Bebe performed for the Telecinco series “Aída.” Her lyrics, always written in the first-person feminine, established her as one of the most personal voices in Spanish pop of the era.

On June 27, 2006, she announced a temporary retirement from music to focus on her acting career, which had taken off with films such as “La educación de las hadas,” directed by José Luis Cuerda, and “Caótica Ana,” directed by Julio Médem. During those years she collaborated with artists such as Tontxu, Chambao, Luis Pastor and Albert Pla. In June 2009 she returned to music with the album “Y…,” from which the singles “La bicha,” “Me fui,” “Pa mi casa” and “Busco me” were released.

Personal life

At the 2009 Latin Grammy Awards ceremony she confirmed she was expecting her first child, and on March 31, 2010, she gave birth to her daughter, Candela.
