Carlos Vargas
Who is Carlos Vargas?
Carlos Vargas was born in the Prado neighborhood of Seville on March 8, 1977, the son of José Vargas and Josefa Delgado, owners of a family business he was originally expected to join after finishing his business administration studies in 1994. With no direct artistic tradition in the family, his passion for singing led him in 1995 to perform at the pharmacists’ pavilion of the Seville Fair, where he was discovered by promoter Juan Mota.
Career
That same year he made his official debut at Seville’s Teatro Lope de Vega, introduced by Imperio Argentina, who took him under her wing and encouraged him to focus on copla. With the backing of Carlos Cano he recorded his first album, “Almoneda de Coplas,” and soon began appearing on Canal Sur programs. Concha Márquez Piquer brought him into her company in 1997 for the tour “Coplas y Canciones,” where he had the guidance of Juanita Reina, paying tribute to Concha Piquer with a performance of “Con un pañuelito blanco.”
In 1998 he signed with Sony Music and released “Pasaporte al Firmamento,” while also entering into an artistic management arrangement with José Luis Moreno. In the years that followed he multiplied his television appearances — “Crónicas Marcianas,” “Día a día,” “Sabor a ti” — and in 2002 was invited by Isabel Pantoja onto her special “Todos con la copla.” That same year he prepared his second album, “Sensaciones,” recorded with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, seeking to blend traditional copla with symphonic arrangements. He has earned recognition from figures such as Rocío Jurado and Pepe de Lucía, and Seville’s Teatro Lope de Vega paid him tribute as part of the exhibition “Sevilla y la Copla.”
