Who is Chenoa?

Chenoa, the stage name of Laura Corradini Martínez (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1975), is a singer who became known in Spain after taking part in the first season of the television talent show “Operación Triunfo,” in 2001. Her run on the show, where she finished as runner-up, turned her overnight into one of the most popular faces of Spanish pop at the turn of the century.

Before settling in Spain, Chenoa was already pursuing a music career in Argentina, but it was the show’s media exposure that launched her career to a mass audience.

Career

After “Operación Triunfo,” Chenoa released her debut album, “Nada es igual” (2002), which became one of the best-selling albums of that year in Spain and included the successful title single. In the following years she continued releasing pop albums with a polished, chart-oriented sound, such as “Absurda cenicienta” (2004) and “Soy mujer” (2015).

Besides her music career, Chenoa has kept up an intense television presence, appearing as a judge or panelist on various Spanish entertainment shows, which has kept her popularity alive beyond music.

Legacy

Chenoa became one of the most recognizable faces of the generation that emerged from Spanish music talent shows, paving the way for such shows to become a common entry point into the country’s music industry. Over the years she has carved out her own place in Spanish pop, beyond her television origins.
