Who is David Bustamante?

David Bustamante Hoyos (San Vicente de la Barquera, Cantabria, March 25, 1982) is a Spanish pop singer. From his breakthrough in the early 2000s he became one of Spain’s most popular artists, building his career on constant touring — more than 200 concerts in his early years alone — and romantic ballads with Latin influences.

Career

In 2002 he released his debut album, “Bustamante,” produced by Miguel Gallardo, which went straight to number one in Spain and sold over 700,000 copies, spawning tracks such as “La magia del corazón,” “El aire que me das,” “No soy un superman” and “Dos hombres y un destino.” A year later came “Así soy yo” (2003), recorded at Crescent Moon Studios in Miami under producer Emilio Estefan, with songs like “Devuélveme el aire,” “Bang Bang Bang” and “No sé vivir sin ti.”

In 2005 he released “Caricias al alma,” produced by Pablo Pinilla, with hits such as “Mi manera de amarte” and “Enamorados,” which earned him a platinum record in Spain and a gold record in Venezuela, plus four consecutive weeks at number one. After passing the one-million mark in combined sales, 2006 brought “Pentimento,” a more personal work paying tribute to great composers. In 2007 he went back to Miami, this time with producer Kike Santander, for the album “Al filo de la irrealidad,” which featured collaborations with guitarist Rayito.

Notable discography

Over the course of his career, Bustamante has racked up more than a dozen platinum records and several gold ones. His catalogue blends ballads with Latin-rhythm tracks, and many of his albums have debuted at number one in Spain.

Personal life

In 2006, at the sweetest moment of his career, he married Spanish actress Paula Echevarría.
