Who is Davinia?

Davinia Cuevas Florido (La Línea de la Concepción, Cádiz, June 29, 1985) is a Spanish singer who rose to fame on the third season of the TV talent show Operación Triunfo, where she finished fourth. She showed an interest in music from an early age, starting out singing Spanish copla at twelve in contests across Andalusian provinces, before turning at sixteen to “canción ligera,” citing Malú, Laura Pausini and Whitney Houston as influences.

Career

At seventeen she recorded a three-track demo and auditioned for Operación Triunfo, earning a spot on the show’s third season and gaining national recognition. Alongside other finalists she recorded the album “Eurovisión 2004,” which earned her first gold record, and that same year she won the OGAE Second Chance — a festival held alongside Eurovision — with the song “Mi obsesión,” a feat only David Bisbal had previously achieved for Spain, in 2002 with “Corazón latino.” She also represented OT España at the World Best festival in Cannes, sharing the bill with Phil Collins and Lionel Richie.

Notable discography

In 2004 she released her debut solo album, “Davinia,” on the Vale Music label, touring Spain with 36 shows. Her second album, “Por ti,” followed in 2006 on M2 Music, blending Andalusian roots with ballads, boleros and dance rhythms. In 2010 she released her third album, “Una nueva ilusión.”
