Formation and career
El Canto del Loco formed in Madrid in 1997, led by singer Dani Martín, together with a group of friends who shared a love of pop rock. After several lineup changes in its early years, the band found its definitive sound and, throughout the 2000s, became one of the most popular groups in Spain, especially among younger audiences.
Their music, with catchy melodies and simple lyrics about love, friendship, and everyday life, connected immediately with several generations of Spanish teenagers and young people, and their concerts became massive events that bordered on true mass phenomena.
Notable discography
Albums such as “Un otoño para vivir” (2002) and “Zapatillas” (2004) include some of their most remembered songs, such as “Zapatillas,” “Puzzle,” and “Besos,” tracks that remain generational anthems on Spanish radio more than two decades after their release.
Breakup and legacy
The band announced its breakup in 2010, at the peak of its popularity, paving the way for Dani Martín’s successful solo career, which continued to reap major commercial success. El Canto del Loco is still remembered as one of the defining bands of 2000s Spanish pop rock, with a clear influence on pop music made in Spain during that decade.
