Fito y Fitipaldis

Formation and career
Fito y Fitipaldis was born in 1998 in Bilbao as a side project of Alfonso “Fito” Cabrales, then still the singer of Platero y Tú, a band with which he had achieved notable success within 1990s Spanish rock. What began as a personal escape toward sounds closer to blues, American rock, and pop rock ended up becoming, after Platero y Tú disbanded in 2001, his main project.
With Fitipaldis, Fito Cabrales developed a more mature, eclectic style than his previous band, with relatable lyrics and melodies that blended rock with influences from blues, country, and Spanish popular music. That shift allowed him to reach a much wider audience than before.
Notable discography
Albums such as “Lo más lejos, a tu lado” (2003), “Antes de que cuente diez” (2005), and “A puerta cerrada” (2007) established the band as one of the most popular in Spanish rock, with songs such as “Soldadito marinero,” “Whisky Barato,” and “Aguanta un poquito más” becoming regular staples of Spanish radio.
Legacy
Fito y Fitipaldis has stayed active for more than two decades, with massive tours and albums that consistently combine high sales with critical acclaim. The band is regarded, alongside other projects that emerged from 90s urban rock, as one of the acts that best managed to evolve toward more accessible sounds without losing authenticity, and Fito Cabrales is today one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary Spanish rock.
