Who is Hombres G?

Hombres G is a pop rock band formed in Madrid in 1983 by David Summers, Rafael Gutiérrez, Daniel Mezquita, and Javier Molina. Emerging in the late stages of the Madrid Movida, the band embraced a carefree pop rock, with humorous, direct lyrics far removed from the sophistication of other bands of the time, which earned them near-instant mass popularity among teenage audiences.

Their knack for catchy melodies and their approachable image quickly made them one of the biggest mass phenomena in 1980s Spanish pop.

Career

Their self-titled 1985 debut album was a resounding success in Spain, with songs that became generational anthems almost immediately. The band soon made the leap to Latin America, where their popularity came to surpass even what they had achieved in Spain, especially in Mexico, becoming pioneers in exporting Spanish pop to that market.

After several years of great success, the group disbanded in the early 1990s and David Summers continued as a solo artist, though Hombres G later reunited on several occasions, maintaining constant activity since then with massive tours that demonstrate the enduring appeal of their catalog decades later.

Notable discography

Among their most popular songs are “Devuélveme a mi chica,” “Marta tiene un marcapasos,” “Sufre mamón,” and “Venezia,” which are part of the most beloved repertoire of 1980s Spanish pop.

Legacy

Along with other bands of their generation, Hombres G represents the more popular, carefree side of the Madrid Movida, and remains one of the Spanish bands with the strongest following in Latin America. Their drawing power on recent tours confirms the lasting appeal of a catalog that has shaped several generations.
