Pedro Monclóa Marco
Who is Marco Monclo?
Pedro Monclóa Marco, a baritone known artistically as Marco Monclo, was born in Barcelona on March 28, 1972, into a family with a strong musical tradition. He began his musical studies with his mother, Dolores, herself a singing teacher, and by 1987 was already performing professionally with various opera companies.
Career
In 1989 he was hired by José Tamayo for his show “Antología de la Zarzuela,” with which he toured stages around the world. In 1994 he continued his training at the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid under tenor Julián Molina, earning the title of Specialized Soloist in 2001 with the highest honors.
Throughout his career he sang under the musical direction of figures such as Miguel Roa, Miguel Ortega, Montserrat Font, Manuel Moreno Buendía, Pedro Halffter, Juan de Udaeta, Antonio Palau and José Fabra, and worked under stage directors including Calixto Bieito, Gustavo Tambascio, Emilio Sagi, Ángel Fernández Montesinos and Giancarlo del Monaco, among others. He appeared in productions such as “Ernani” at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, several productions at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, “Andrea Chénier” and “La Dolores” in Santander, “L’elisir d’amore” in Baracaldo and Jerez, “La Traviata” in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and “Il viaggio a Reims” at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
Recognition
In 2006 he took part in the opening of the 52nd Mérida Classical Theatre Festival at the city’s Roman Theatre, and that same year he performed at the gala marking the 150th anniversary of Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela, two of the standout moments in a career entirely devoted to the Spanish lyric repertoire.
