Marta Sánchez

Who is Marta Sánchez?
Marta Sánchez López (Madrid, May 8, 1966, though some sources place her birth in A Coruña) is a Spanish pop singer. She is the daughter of opera singer Antonio Sánchez and Paz López, both of Galician descent, and had a twin sister, Paz, who died in 2004 at age 38 from cancer.
In 1986 she joined the group Olé Olé as lead singer, replacing Vicky Larraz, after a brief stint in the short-lived band Cristal Oscuro. With Olé Olé she popularized covers such as “Lili Marleen” and took part in the ambitious album “1990,” partly produced by Nile Rodgers, which spawned the single “Soldados del amor.”
Career
She remained the face of Olé Olé until 1991, when she left the group to prepare her solo career, officially launched in 1993 with the album “Mujer.” It was followed by “Mi mundo” (1995), “Azabache” (1997) and “Desconocida” (1998), records through which she built her own sound and her image as an independent artist. Altogether she has sold around six million copies as a solo artist, and more than seven million counting her sales with Olé Olé.
Personal life
In 1991 she posed nude for the magazine Interviu, in one of the best-selling issues in the publication’s history. She was married to Argentine model and entrepreneur Jorge Salati between 1994 and 1995, and has been married since July 2002 to Jesús Cabanas, with whom she has a daughter, Paula, born in 2003.
