Pablo Alborán

Who is Pablo Alborán?
Pablo Alborán (Málaga, 1989) is a self-taught singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist: he learned guitar as a child, largely on his own, and began writing songs long before considering music as a career. That informal, non-academic training shaped a personal style from the start, intimate and centred on voice and guitar, which he later expanded with more elaborate arrangements as his career progressed.
His public breakthrough came in 2011 with “Solamente tú,” a song that spread massively online even before he had the backing of a major label, catapulting him overnight into the front rank of Spanish pop. The phenomenon, driven largely by digital word of mouth, made him almost instantly one of the most listened-to voices in Spanish-language music, with a debut album that quickly confirmed that early momentum.
Career
From that debut, Pablo Alborán strung together a series of commercially successful albums both in Spain and across numerous Latin American countries, establishing himself as one of the Spanish-language artists with the widest international reach of his generation. His records have combined emotionally charged ballads with more pop-oriented tracks, always keeping first-person songwriting and a carefully crafted presentation, both in the studio and live.
Throughout his career he has collaborated with artists from different corners of Latin American and Iberian pop, including the Mexican duo Jesse & Joy and Portuguese fado singer Carminho, showing a versatility that ranges from mainstream pop to more intimate sounds closer to fado or roots music. These collaborations have helped broaden his audience beyond Spain, strengthening his presence in the Latin American market.
Notable discography
His recording career has been built on albums that achieved considerable commercial and critical success across the Spanish-speaking world, with “Solamente tú” as the founding song and starting point for everything that followed. That first major hit was followed by further work that reinforced his standing as one of the most popular singer-songwriters of his generation, combining radio-friendly singles with albums that stayed on sales charts for the long haul.
Personal life
In 2021 Pablo Alborán publicly shared two personal facts he had previously kept private: that he is partially deaf and that he is gay. Both disclosures received considerable media attention and were embraced by the artist matter-of-factly, as simply one more part of his own story, without drama, while also helping bring visibility to these realities within the Spanish music industry.
