Paulina Rubio

Who is Paulina Rubio?
Paulina Susana Rubio Dosamantes (Mexico City, June 17, 1971), known professionally as Paulina Rubio, is a Mexican singer and actress and one of the best-selling Latin pop artists of her generation, with more than 20 million albums sold over her career. As a child she studied singing, drama, jazz, painting and dance, and at just eight years old she joined the children’s pop group Timbiriche, with whom she recorded around ten studio albums before leaving in 1991. During those years she combined music with roles in Televisa telenovelas.
Career
In 1992 she released “La chica dorada,” her first solo record with EMI Music, followed by “24 kilates,” “El tiempo es oro” and “Planeta Paulina.” The big breakthrough came in 2000, when she signed with Universal Music: her self-titled album “Paulina” became one of the best-selling albums of 2001, earning two Diamond certifications in Mexico, and established her in Spain as one of the first Mexican artists to win over a mass audience there. In 2002 she made her international crossover with “Border Girl,” certified gold in the United States, Canada, Italy and Japan, led by the single “Don’t Say Goodbye.”
In 2004 she released “Pau-Latina,” with hits such as “Te quise tanto” and “Dame otro tequila,” cementing her as one of the most internationally successful Mexican singers. “Ananda” (2006) and “Gran City Pop” (2009) followed, rounding out a career in which she sold more than 20 million records and a million digital downloads.
Personal life
On April 30, 2007, she married Spanish businessman Nicolás Vallejo-Nágera, known as “Colate.” In 2009, while promoting her album “Gran City Pop” in Spain, her Miami home was burgled, an episode that drew wide media coverage in both countries.
