Tamara
Who is Tamara?
Macarena Valcárcel Serrano, known by her stage name Tamara, was born on June 27, 1984, in Seville. She is a melodic singer best known for her bolero interpretations. She is the granddaughter of flamenco singer Rafael Farina and the daughter of a flamenco dancer, growing up in a strongly artistic family environment. Her early influences included songs from Disney films, as well as artists such as Ana Gabriel, Luis Miguel, Los Panchos and, from Spain, Rocío Dúrcal.
At age 11 she took part in the television show “Menudas Estrellas,” impersonating the lead character from Pocahontas and finishing third; the following season she returned to the contest performing songs by Italian singer Laura Pausini. At just 12 she signed her first record deal with a Seville label, which opened the doors of television and radio to her.
Career
At only fifteen she released her debut bolero album, “Gracias” (2000), which was a hit in Spain and then broke through in the United States and Latin America, where she became known as a bolero prodigy. Songs such as “Un Mundo Raro,” “Si Nos Dejan” and “Si Dios Me Quita La Vida” launched her to international popularity, produced by Argentine producer Bebu Silvetti.
In 2001 she released her second album, “Siempre,” followed in 2003 by her third, “Abrázame,” recorded entirely in Miami again with Silvetti producing. Her fourth record, “Tamara Canta a Roberto Carlos,” paid tribute to the Brazilian composer through eleven of his most representative songs, recorded in Rio de Janeiro. In 2007 she released “Perfecto,” produced between Madrid, Rome and Bratislava.
Personal life
In May 2005, at age 21, Tamara married businessman Daniel Roque, owner of a nightclub in Barcelona, in Seville after a two-year relationship; the religious ceremony took place at the San Lorenzo parish. The couple has two children, Daniela and Leandro.
