Who is Vanesa Martín?

Vanesa Martín is a Spanish singer and songwriter born in Málaga on November 14, 1980. She received her first guitar at just six years old and has been composing ever since. In late 2003 she moved to Madrid with a suitcase full of songs, and her early gigs at the bar “El Taburete” began attracting attention from record labels.

Career

In 2006 she released her debut album, “Agua,” produced by Carlos Jean, reissued the following year with new versions. During those years she wrote songs for other artists, including Manuel Lombo, María Toledo and Pastora Soler, and served as lead singer on Alejandro Fernández’s Spanish tour. In 2009 she signed with Warner Music and released her second album, “Trampas,” produced in Milan by Bob Benozzo, which marked her first entry into Spain’s best-selling album charts. In 2010 she received the Dial Award, presented annually by Cadena Dial to the most notable artists on the Spanish music scene.

That same year she toured Spanish theaters — including the Lope de Vega in Seville, the Cervantes in Málaga, the Falla in Cádiz and the Villamarta in Jerez — and reissued “Trampas” with a DVD recorded live at the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, featuring guest artists such as Chenoa, Pastora Soler, Diana Navarro and Manuel Lombo. In 2012 she announced her third album, “Cuestión de piel,” featuring thirteen songs and several collaborations.

Discography and social commitment

Beyond her recording career, Vanesa Martín has performed benefit concerts, such as one held in Tarifa in support of an international cooperation project. Her repertoire, marked by intimate lyrics and a distinctive voice, has made her one of the most acclaimed Spanish singer-songwriters of her generation.
