Antonio Flores
Who is Antonio Flores?
Antonio González Flores was born on 14 November 1961 in Madrid, the only son of flamenco and copla legend Lola Flores, “La Faraona”, and Catalan rumba guitarist Antonio González, “El Pescaílla”. His sisters are fellow singers and actresses Lolita Flores and Rosario Flores.
Unlike the rest of his family, Antonio broke with the flamenco tradition to find his own voice in pop and rock, influenced by Anglo-American music of the late 1970s.
Career and discography
In 1980, at just 19 years old, he released his debut album, “Antonio”, which included what would become his most remembered song, “No dudaría”, a rock ballad about regret and the hope for change that remains a generational anthem of Spanish pop to this day.
Over time he recorded albums such as “Cosas mías”, featuring songs like “Alba” (dedicated to his daughter), “Siete vidas”, “Cuerpo de mujer”, and “Arriba los corazones”. In 1994 the compilation “Lo mejor de Antonio Flores” was released.
Legacy
Lola Flores, Antonio’s mother, died on 16 May 1995. Fifteen days later, on 31 May, Antonio died at just 33 years old. His daughter, Alba Flores, is today an internationally successful actress known for her roles in series such as “Money Heist” (“La Casa de Papel”) and “Vis a Vis”, extending the family’s artistic legacy to a new generation.
