Who is Conchita Bautista?
Concepción Bautista (Seville, October 27, 1936) is a Spanish singer and actress known by the stage name Conchita Bautista. She is regarded as one of the leading Spanish performers of her era and was Spain’s first representative at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Career
In 1961 she performed in Cannes with the song “Estando contigo,” written by Augusto Algueró with music by Antonio Guijarro, finishing ninth with eight points. Four years later she represented Spain again, in Naples, with “¡Qué bueno, qué bueno!,” which this time scored no points, tied with three other countries. Alongside her singing career, she appeared in several films, including “La reina mora” (1954), “La venganza” (1957), “La novia de Juan Lucero” (1958) and “Escuela de seductoras” (1962).
Notable discography
Between 1958 and 1982 she released numerous singles, and over the course of her career put out albums such as “Reina de un día” (1965), “Conchita Bautista” (1977) and the compilation “Conchita Bautista: sus mejores canciones” (1988), plus the LP “Por ti” (1992). A DVD, “La Copla: Conchita Bautista y Rafael Farina,” was released in 2006.
