Who is Lolita Flores?
María Dolores González Flores, known artistically as Lolita Flores, was born in Madrid on 6 May 1958. She grew up in the Chamberí neighbourhood as the eldest child of the marriage between Lola Flores, “La Faraona”, and Catalan rumba guitarist Antonio González, “El Pescaílla”. She is the elder sister of fellow artists Antonio Flores and Rosario Flores.
Musical career
Her first major hit as a singer came in 1975 with “Amor, amor”. Throughout her career she has released notable albums such as “Amor, amor”, “Locura de amor”, and “Lola, Lolita, Dolores”, keeping alive the family tradition of copla and flamenco pop with a style of her own.
Film, television, and legacy
Besides her musical career, Lolita Flores has a long career as an actress: she made her debut as a child alongside her parents in “La Gitana y el Charro” and starred in 1976 in “Haz la loca… no la guerra”. She returned to film 25 years later with “Rencor” (2001), a film for which she won the Goya Award for Best New Actress in 2002. On television she has hosted programmes such as “Sabor a Lolas” (alongside her mother) and “Lolita tiene un plan”. She is the mother of actress Elena Furiase and has received honours such as the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts (2017).
